Bradford Virtual Pride-The show must go online!
May 7, 2020
This year we were planning to celebrate the 15thBradford Pride in spectacular fashion in its spiritual home of City Park. However, Covid19 prevented us from doing this so we acted quickly and moved to create one of the first Virtual Pride events anywhere in the world!
It will take place on Saturday 9th May 4pm-11pm with a wide spectrum of acts, performers and supporters from the world of sport, politics, arts and of cause LGBTQ+ culture.
Holding Pride events is so important because they send a clear and visible message to the LGBTQ+ community that they play an important part in our district’s cultural fabric. Moreover, they allow us to reflect on past struggles and are a reminder that nothing has ever been handed to us on a plate and that we have had to fight hard for the rights we enjoy today. It is 50 years since the first ever pride marches and so it is massively important that when we see hate crime against our community on the rise we work together with allies to educate, active and get organised to defeat the politics of hate and division with the politics of love and unity.
As an openly gay man I am immensely proud of how welcoming, accepting and progressive our Council and wider district is when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights.
Saturday will be a special day for Bradford. Bradford Pride is the epitome of Bradford For Everyone. Please do join us by following the live feed on our Facebook Page from 4pm on Saturday: https://www.facebook.com/Bradford-Pride-802777423151806/
