Managers becoming Inclusive Leaders

Improving manager capability is a key outcome in our 2 year plan. As part of this embedding the right behaviours is crucial. To support this, we designed and launched an Inclusive Leadership workshop for all people managers.
Our Inclusive Leadership workshops are part of our wider manager capability programme, to embed the inclusive behaviours. This space offers our managers in a safe space, to explore new ways of working that will foster a culture of belonging, develop cultural awareness and emotional intelligence, and empower managers to get the best out of their teams.
We ensured that our design of the programme was co-designed with the People Experience Team, and workshops were accessible and interactive to encourage self-directed learning and goal setting.
- Pilot session completed with wider People Team to test and incorporate user testing
- Sessions adapted to ensure timed appropriately so not straight after or before learning group to allow leaders the time to reflect and implement change

- Inclusive Leadership Behaviours framework – an adapted framework to be accessible and build upon the foundational inclusive behaviours
- Activity 2 – Safari activity to set actions based on the impact matrix around the 4 behaviours
- Brave Space Discussion – Open forum to start accountability journey and ask questions

- At start of session and end short survey completed via Microsoft Forms to measure impact*
Impacts are already visible after delivery of three cohorts (December 2023), 92% of attendees feel they have a good/excellent understanding of Inclusive Leadership post session and 91% of attendees feel comfortable to implement inclusive leadership behaviours post session.
Tips for organisations and replicability
Inclusive Leadership is key to organisational cultural change. I would recommend including training within your L&D offer to every organisation.
Creating bite size learning, and making session as interactive as possible, with safe and brave space guidelines is always a good start.
